Just watched "Riddles of the Dead" on National Geographic channel and
I'm truly amazed !!!
people for these past decades had been saying/believing/insisting that when Tsar Nicholas II and family was executed in 1918, it was Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna who escaped on that cruel night.
I did knew that when the Russians exhumed and did checks on the bodies of the Romanvos, they stated that one of the bodies belong to Anastasia and the Duchess that escaped is her sister, Grand Duchess Maria Nikolaevna.
well the Americans totally disagreed with them saying it was indeed Anastasia who escaped not her sister. they also questioned the accuracy of the tests conducted by the Russians.
But who will knew that a granny in South Africa had been telling her predecessors that she is a Grand Duchess of Russia (not mentioning exactly which Duchess she was) and how she was being rescued by a truck on that night.
So after her death her grandson wanted to prove whether she is Anastasia (since almost everyone insisted it was her)
her body was exhumed and send to 3 different university including Oxford to be tested in different aspect
two results came back saying it was indeed Maria who escaped however Oxford first result (DNA from a limb bone)does not supports it. So they did a second test on the skull and the DNA clearly showed it belonged to the Romanovs' family and is belonged to Maria
so in the end the Russians was all the while correct in their theory that Maria is the one who escaped.
